Dr. Elez completed her PhD in Counselling Psychology at the University of British Columbia and holds two Master's level degrees: Master of Marriage and Family Therapy from the University of Winnipeg and Master of Arts in Psychology from the University of Belgrade. In addition to formal education, she has received substantial clinical training in a number of treatment models, including Self-Regulation Therapy, Emotionally Focused Therapy for Couples and extensive training in clinical supervision.
Dr. Elez's registrations include: Registered Psychologist (College of Psychologists of British Columbia #2269); Registered Marriage and Family Therapist and Approved Supervisor with the Canadian Association for Marriage and Family Therapy (RMFT-S #97546) and Clinical Fellow and Approved Supervisor of the American Association for Marriage and Family Therapy (#97546).
Tanya is a compassionate, skilled, and collaborative psychologist who has been highly committed to providing excellent mental health services to diverse individuals, couples and families for over 25 years. She has substantial training and experience in the area of mental health, couple and family relationships and immigrant and refugee adaptation.
For a number of years, Tanya worked as a therapist and clinical supervisor at Aurora Family Therapy Centre at the University of Winnipeg. In addition to her excellent track record as a clinician, Tanya has trained a number of marriage and family therapists, clinical counsellors and psychologists who are now also have successful careers as clinicians, supervisors and educators.
Tanya has taught Master's and Doctoral level university courses for a number of years. She was a faculty member and a clinical supervisor in the Marriage and Family Therapy Program at the University of Winnipeg and served as adjunct faculty in the Doctor of Psychology in Clinical Psychology Program at Adler University in Vancouver. Tanya has been teaching courses in family, relationship and adult counselling in the Counselling Psychology Program at the University of British Columbia since 2015.
In 2007, Tanya founded the Therapy Program for Immigrant and Refugee Families at Aurora Family Therapy Centre in Winnipeg. This program, which has grown and received national recognition, continues to provide valued mental health, psycho-educational and other services to clients of diverse immigrant and refugee backgrounds. Throughout her career, Tanya has been passionately invested in the field of migrant mental health. She has published and offered workshops, presentations and training in this area.
Tanya is happy to offer services in New Westminster, British Columbia, where she currently lives with her people and pet family. She enjoys reading, running and spending time with family and friends.
